Visits and hosting
This website is hosted by Netlify. As with other websites, the host processes technical request information needed to deliver pages and keep the service working. Reading a page does not require an account.
Optional Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 only after you select “Allow analytics.” It helps us understand page visits, approximate engagement, and clicks that lead to other websites. Google Signals and ad personalization are disabled for this Analytics tag. Google Analytics may use cookies and process device, browser, and visit information under Google’s privacy policy. The site does not load the Google Analytics tag before you agree. This choice applies to Google Analytics on this site; it does not control separate services you choose to open.
You can select “Continue without analytics” and still use the site. We save your choice in your browser’s local storage so the question does not reappear on every page. To change it, use here or in the footer. If you withdraw permission, the site stops loading Google Analytics on subsequent page views and attempts to remove its first-party cookies in this browser. Data collected before withdrawal is not erased automatically.
Contact-form spam protection
The contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA to help distinguish people from automated submissions. Google processes browser and device information and may set a necessary cookie for this check. reCAPTCHA runs on the contact page as part of sending a message; it is separate from optional Google Analytics. See Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Contact messages
The contact form asks for your name, email address, subject, and message. Netlify Forms processes the submission so The Last Transmission can read and reply. Please do not send sensitive personal information in the message. To ask about a message you have sent, use the contact page.
External stories and video
Articles link to Substack; documentaries may use embedded YouTube players or link to YouTube. Pages may display article artwork hosted by Substack, and links can lead to NASA or other research sources. Those services can receive information when your browser requests their images, players, or pages and have their own privacy practices. The analytics choice above controls the Google Analytics tag on DarkScienceDocs.com; it does not prevent those independent requests.
Changes and questions
