Particles Falling Through Titan’s Sky
Titan’s haze is real, while this view of individual particles and deposits is an artistic interpretation.

A conceptual view of organic particles descending through Titan's haze. Their appearance and the thickness of any deposit are artistic choices, not measurements from this study. AI illustration. © 2026 DarkScienceDocs.com.
THE OBSERVATION
What we can actually see.
Titan has a dense atmosphere with photochemical haze that affects the sunlight and infrared light reaching an observer. The Webb analysis had to account for this atmospheric contribution before assessing a narrow absorption band that may arise at the surface.
THE ILLUSTRATION
What the artwork imagines.
Visible grains drifting downward and accumulating in a specific layer provide a story for the eye. The study did not measure the shape, color, or thickness of those particles here, nor prove that haze fallout makes the 5.11-micrometer band.
FROM THE ILLUSTRATED ARTICLE
The story that inspired it.
In the illustrated article, the haze is part of the detective work: subtracting its influence helps reveal a feature whose material identity remains open.
